Wilkinsons of Lancashire

Someone submitted several more generations of ancestors for this tree to Ancestry.  The data does not seem to fit perfectly and I have been unable to verify it.  I am only including information here that I have been able to verify.

Henry Wilkinson was born 1749, Poulton le Fylde, Lancashire, England.  He died 20 DEC 1842, Marton, Lancashire, England.  He married Elizabeth Leach on 4 AUG 1800, St. John’s Preston, Lancashire, England.  See my Leach page for information on Elizabeth’s ancestors. Henry and John’s marriage entries show their names as “Leach alias Wilkinson.”  Of his children were known as Leach alias Wilkinson even though they were born after henry and Elizabeth married.  He was a private in the 3rd Regiment (later known as the West Kent Regiment or “the Buff”).  He served for 21 years and was discharge 2 MAY 1799 at St. Christophers, arrived at Chatham Barrackes 10 JUL 1799.  He was discharged for aged, debility and broken leg.  This explains why he married so late in life.  His regiment served in the United States from 1781 -1890.  He likely servied for the British in the Revolutionary War during the first part of his service in the United States.  They had: John b 22 FEB 1801, Marton, Lancashire, England, d 27 FEB 1875, Marton, Lancashire, England; Catherine b 22 FEB 1801, Marton, Lancashire, England, d 6 MAY 1884; Henry b 18 SEP 1805, Marton, Lancashire, England, d 1851;  James b 7 OCT 1808, Marton, Lancashire, England; and Betty b 3 AUG 1811, d APR 1878.  Henry and John were referred to as “Wilkinson alias Leach” in their marriage records.

John Wilkinson was born 22 FEB 1801, Marton, Lancashire, England.  he died 27 FEB 1875, Marton, Lancashire, England.  He married Agnes Cardwell on 15 DEC 1823, St. Chad’s, Poulton, Lancashire, England.  See my Cardwell page for information on Agnes’ ancestors.  They had: Henry b 25 JAN 1824, Marton, Lancashire, England; Elizabeth (Betty) b 13 AUG 1826, Marton, Lancashire, England, d 15 MAR 1877, Marton, Lancashire, England; Margaret b 13 AUG 1826, Marton, Lancashire, England, d 1863; Thomas b 19 NOV 1829, d 5 JUN 1838, Marton, Lancashire, England; Bridget b 30 NOV 1832, d 12 JUL 1846, Marton, Lancashire, England; James b 8 FEB 1835, Marton, Lancashire, England, d 1895, Blackpool, Lancashire, England; Catherine b 16 JUL 1839, Marton, Lancashire, England; Thomas b 28 APR 1839, Marton, Lancashire, England; John b 20 NOV 1841, Marton, Lancashire, England, d SEP 1908; Ellen b 18 JAN 1842; and Robert b 16 AUG 1846, Marton, Lancashire, England, d 1908, Blackpool, Lancashire, England.
